Dorothy Lee (Poland) Byard

Dorothy Lee Byard, 94, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 3, 2021 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born November 26, 1926, in Lyons, the daughter of Everett and Bertha Schwartz Poland. Dorothy was a near lifelong Lyons resident. She graduated from Lyons High School. Dorothy was a farm wife. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons. Dorothy enjoyed farming, tending to her cattle, and mowing the lawn. On August 4, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage with Howard Stanley Byard in Scott Field, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Virginia Hendrickson. Dorothy is survived by her son, Dennis L. Byard and wife Vickie of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Sheryl D. Myers and fiancé, John Rupright of Salina, KS; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., Monday, September 6, 2021, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. Memorials may be given to the FFA of Rice County or Rice Community Healthcare Foundation (for the Swing Bed Unit) in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
