Dallas Smith Obituary

Dallas Logan Smith, 69, of Russell, Kansas, passed away September 23, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born February 16, 1954, in Hays, Kansas, the son of James “Logan” and Vera (Glazier) Smith. Dallas was raised in Bunker Hill, Kansas, and spent his adult life in Russell. He graduated from Luray High School, Lucas, Kansas, with the class of 1972. He worked at Shields Oil, in Russell, as a catskinner operator and tank truck driver. Dallas was a 25-year member of both the Otterbein Methodist Church in Bunker Hill, Kansas, and the Bible Baptist Church in Russell, Kansas. He was also a member of the AMA (American Modelers Association). He enjoyed motorcycles, especially his Ducati 450 which he had as a child. He enjoyed playing his guitar in a band, tinkering with RC airplanes, camping, reloading ammunition, and target practice. On August 14, 1976, Dallas was united in marriage with Christine Ann Miller in Sterling, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Christine Smith; three children, Tyler Logan Smith of Kingman, KS, Austin Dwayne Smith of Sterling, KS, and Shelby Ann Smith of Sterling, KS; two sisters, Janet Cable and husband Charlie of Russell, KS, and Julie Meyer of Wilson, KS; aunt, Betty of CA; five nephews, Perry Dietz, Dale Dietz, Grant Dietz, Ward Dietz, and Nicholas Cable; and niece, Kimberly Hopkins. Dallas is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 29, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Dale Lane and Pastor Dale Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time at the funeral home with family present. Memorials may be given to Bible Baptist Church, Russell or Calvary Baptist Church, Sterling, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
