Charles Edward “Ed” Fair, 81, of Alden, Kansas, passed away December 23, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1939 in Hutchinson, the son of Christian N. “Chris” and Glenna Marie Kuhn Fair. Ed was a lifelong Alden resident. He graduated from Alden High School with the class of 1957, and later attended Sterling College for one year. Ed served in the United States Army from September 30, 1958 until September 29, 1964. He was a farmer and stockman. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He made all of his children grandfather clocks. Ed was Santa Claus for the children of Alden for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Alden, where he also served as deacon. Ed served for many years on the Sterling Co-op Board, Valley Township Board, and Rice County Farm Bureau Board. On May 31, 1964, Ed was united in marriage with Shirley Partington in Sterling. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his two daughters, Julie Baker and husband Greg of Mission, KS, and Sarah Ober and husband Robert of Alden, KS; sister Norma J. Fair of Columbia, MO; four grandchildren, Marissa and Heather Ober, Anna and Adam Baker. Ed is preceded in death by his parents; son Charles Norman Fair; and daughter, Ellen Bock. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, Alden with Pastor Matt Hendricks officiating. Please wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
