Charles Winfield "Charlie" Alderman

Charles W. “Charlie” Alderman, 92, of Lyons, passed away on February 18, 2018 at Country Place of Lyons. He was born December 14, 1925 in Lyons, KS., the son of Donald and Esther (Ball) Alderman. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1943. Charlie has been a lifelong Lyons and Rice County resident. He was a cattleman, farmer and co-owner of Central Livestock Corporation for 25 plus years. Charlie was a partner in Owl Creek Cattle Company for more than 40 years. He served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. Charlie was a lifelong member of the American Legion, VFW, United Methodist Church, all of Lyons, and Kansas Livestock Association. On November 20, 1949, Charlie was united in marriage with Loretta May Young in Lyons. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willis Alderman; and sister, Margaret Manos. He is survived by his two daughters, Tricia Bridgess of Lyons; and Jan Huck of Scott City, KS; brother, Les and Sue Alderman of Lyons; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Military honors by the Sterling American Legion. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. Memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice of Hutchinson and Meals on Wheels of Lyons in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
