Candy Kelley Obituary

Candy Lynn Kelley, 71, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away November 15, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born July 27, 1951, in Sterling, the daughter of Marvin Elliott and Virginia Detwiler Cain. Candy attended Sterling High School. She has resided in Lyons since 2004, formerly of Sterling. Candy was a waitress at the Sterling Café for many years; worked in the cafeteria for Sterling USD #376; was a dental assistant for Douglas Hinshaw in Sterling; and was a caretaker for her late sister, Dinah Sue Lyon. Candy enjoyed working outdoors, feeding, and watching the birds and squirrels. She liked playing cards, annual “sister” parties; and most of all spending time with her family. On April 16, 2004, Candy was united in marriage with Bill Kelley in Sterling. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin Cain; and sister, Dinah Sue Lyon. Candy is survived by her two daughters, Lisa McKinnis and husband Tim of Lyons, KS, Janet Heter and Justin Anthony of McPherson, KS; three brothers, Frank Cain and wife Annette of Sterling, KS, Dan Cain and wife Sondra of Hutchinson, KS, and Dennis Cain and wife Julie of NC; four sisters, Gwen Walker of Sterling, KS, Betty Bateman and husband Chuck of South Hutchinson, KS, Judy Rose and husband Dale of Sterling, KS, and Deena Groth of Sterling; sister-in-law, Mary Jayne Cain of Sterling, KS; five grandchildren, Ariel Engelland of Prairie Village, KS, Trae Anthony of McPherson, KS, Breanna Money of Galva, KS, Alexis and Aiden Smith both of McPherson, KS; three great-grandchildren, Liam and Jack Blake both of Galva, KS, and Elizabeth Anthony of McPherson, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Dennis Corbett officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County or Alzheimer’s Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
