Beverly Kay "Bev" Sloan

Beverly Kay “Bev” Sloan, 65, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away July 26, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born January 7, 1960, in Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Buckley and Patricia (Hodges) Sloan. Bev has resided in Lyons since 2001, formerly of Leoti, Kansas. She graduated from Sterling High School, Sterling. Bev was the former owner and operator of New Image Trucking in Lyons. She was a member of the New Hope Church, Hutchinson, KS, and the Lyons Chamber of Commerce. Bev enjoyed gambling, fishing, and shopping, loved collecting rocks and coins, and most of all spending time with her kids and grandkids. She had a big heart and was always caring for others. Bev was married to Ricky Young for twenty-five years. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2021. She is also preceded in death by her parents. Bev is survived by her children, Leonard “Opie” Thurman and wife Charlotte of Lyons, KS, Nathan Young of Slidell, LA, Richard Young of Hutchinson, KS, Geoffrey Young and wife Danielle of Slidell, LA, Robert Young of Lyons, KS, Jennifer Young of Boise, ID, Nicole Vopat and husband Jeremy of Wilson, KS, Savannah Bedoka and husband Jake of New Castle, OK, and Mike Schwindt of Sterling, KS; brother, Jim Sloan of NE; two sisters, Lisa Boyd of FL, and Melissa Dodson and husband Harold of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at New Hope Church, 4815 E. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Brian Lee officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Memorials may be given to New Hope Church, Hutchinson in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. The family suggests if you have something purple to wear it to the service.
