Betty June (Mead) Taylor

After a courageous three year battle with dementia, Betty J. Taylor, 92 of Sterling, Kansas, passed from this life at the Sunshine Manor in Buhler, Kansas and entered heaven on September 10, 2024. She was born on April 27, 1932 in Sterling Kansas, the daughter of Rollin and Essie Mead. Betty was united in marriage with Billy Taylor on March 29, 1952. They moved to the farm east Sterling, Kansas in 1955. Betty graduated from Sterling High School in 1952 and then attended Hutchinson Community College. She spent her lifetime on the farm, helping Bill farm the land east of Sterling from 1955 until both retiring in 2005. She prepared many meals for the hired help. Her life away from the farm consisted of driving a school bus, teaching her kids to ride horses, attending their athletic events and having many card parties with the neighbors. They then moved to the west side Hutchinson, Kansas. She was a dedicated member of the Sterling United Methodist Church for 69 years in Sterling, Kansas. Betty loved camping and fishing with family while on vacation with her family. She loved traveling with Billy to South Padre, Texas and Arizona. Betty was a loving wife with Bill for 67 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her family she loved so dearly: son, Curtis and wife Myrna; daughters, Cheryl Thombley and husband Wilbur, and Teresa Robinson and husband Gary; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Taylor, parents; Rollin and Essie Mead; brothers, Roy Mead, Harry Mead, Dick Mead. Betty will be remembered for her sweet smile, warm personality, outgoing friendliness and her non-judgmental attitude. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 20, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home, with family present. Memorials may be given to Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community or Gentiva Hospice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
