Beatrice “Bea” Rau, 91, of Lyons, passed away August 2, 2020 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born January 2, 1929 in Lyons, the daughter of John and Isidra Ramierez Barrientos. Bea was a near lifelong Lyons resident. She was a well-known cook, owning and operating B’s Elbow Inn, Lyons. Bea retired from Sterling Drug. She loved cooking, entertaining, and most of all taking care of her family. Bea loved being a grandmother. She also sang around Lyons at various locations for the GI’s. Bea was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons. She is survived by her son, Rick Gutierrez of Lyons; two daughters, Tonya Hendrickson and husband Randy of Hutchinson, KS, and Tisha Mason and husband Tom of Lyons; step-son, Peter Rau of California; step-daughter, Shirley Wright of Texas; adopted daughter, Mary Pearce of Marysville,KS; brother, Louis Barrientos of Brooksdale, CO; three sisters, Carol Palacioz of Lyons, Odelia Avila of Wichita, KS, and Isabelle Cadena of Lyons; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. Bea was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Robert, Greg, and Ronald Gutierrez; two step-sons, Lake Hayes Rau, and Tommy Cleveland; two brothers, Daniel Barrientos, and Joe Barrientos; two sisters, Betty Harkrader and Frances Barrientos; brothers-in-law, Felix Palacioz, Roman Avila; sister-in-law, Della Barrientos; three nephews, Pascual “Torey” DeLaTorre Jr., Steven Palacioz, and Eddy Avila; and niece, Patricia Avila. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., August 22, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will be in California at a later date. Memorials may be given to Rice Community Healthcare Foundation (for the Swing Bed Unit at Hospital District #1 of Rice County) or Hospice of Reno County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
