Barbara Ann (Garcia) Thurston Haggard

Barbara Ann (Garcia) Thurston Haggard, 82, of Lyons, Kansas passed away July 31st, 2024, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, with her family by her side. Barbara was born October 10, 1941, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to William and Emma (Lopez) Garcia. She went to San Felipe Catholic School and later graduated from Albuquerque High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Barbara moved to Kansas City, MO after graduation and later graduated from Cosmetology School in 1961. On May 19th, 1979, she married Henry Davis "Dave" Haggard in Kansas City, MO and shortly thereafter moved to make their home in Lyons, KS. He preceded her in death on May 7th, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters; and a grandson, Nathon Thurston. Barbara worked several jobs in the service and retail industry throughout her lifetime. She was very active in the children’s "LOGO" program at the First Christian Church in Lyons. She also enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing, traveling and most of all entertaining her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Barbara is survived by her two children, Bill Thurston and wife Ann of Lyons, and Penne Wege and husband Kevin of Ozawkie, KS; four sisters, Viola Maez of Lynnwood, WA, Catherine Magruder of Excelsior Springs, MO, Betty Gonzalez of Austin, TX and Janice Bumgardner of Kearney, MO; six grandchildren, Jackie, Jacob, Joshua, Madison, Ryon, and Mikal; and seven great-grandchildren, Jayden, Elliott, Karter, Kinley, Tathan, Lincoln and Annlynn. A celebration of Life will be held September 21st, 2024, at 1595 Avenue E, Lyons, KS from 3pm - 5pm. A private family burial will be at the Fayette City Cemetery, Fayette, MO at a later date. Memorials may be given to donor’s choice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
