Arthur Godfrey “Junior” Johnson, 93, of Little River, Kansas, passed away August 9, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson, Kansas. He was born September 28, 1929, in Little River, the son of Arthur Godfrey Sr. and Stella Irene Fortner Johnson. Junior was a lifelong Little River resident. He graduated from Little River High School, with the class of 1947. Junior served in the United States Navy from 1950 until 1951 on the USS Boyd during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic for Boeing Corporation in Wichita from 1954 until 1970. Following his career at Boeing, Junior was a Little River Superintendent and City Marshall, retiring in October of 1993. Junior attended the Congregational Church, Little River. He loved fishing, wildlife, gardening, and yardwork. Junior was a devoted husband and was known for his sense of humor. He was happy with a fishing pole in one hand and a faithful dog by his side. On December 27, 1953, Junior was united in marriage with Helen Louise Garber in Little River. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2014. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Phyllis Johnson, Kathleen Ewy, and Ruth Ann John. Junior is survived by his two daughters, Deanna Leach and husband Dale of Marion, KS, and Cari Tipton and the late Monte of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren, Danica Sommer and husband Eric, Dirk Leach, Chase Tipton and wife Katie, Alisa Tipton and partner Debi, and Caden Tipton; and four great-grandchildren, Madison, Ashlyn, Alexis and Drake. Graveside service will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 14, 2023, at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River, with Pastor Ted Weis officiating. The visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M., Sunday, August 13, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
