Anita Danette (Pruitt) Wedel

Anita Danette Wedel, 71, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 9, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, with her family by her side. She was born January 14, 1954, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Wilbert and Marion (Thompson) Pruitt. Anita has resided in Lyons since 1976, formerly of Hutchinson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School, with the class of 1972. Anita was a homemaker and worked in housekeeping at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Red Hat Society, and Lions Club International, all in Lyons. Anita loved dancing in her younger years, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, camping, and fishing. She loved all animals, especially her two dogs, Sparky and Abbee. On July 1, 1972, Anita was united in marriage with Charlie Wedel in Hutchinson. Anita is survived by her husband, Charlie of Lyons, KS; two children, Martin Wedel (Stacie) of Hannibal, MO, and Angela Huffstutter (Tony) of Foristell, MO; sister, Thelma Warta (John) of Geneseo, KS; eight grandchildren, Savannah Harrison of St. Ann, MO, Emma Wedel of Anabel, MO, Avery Huffstutter (Tierney) of O’Fallon, MO, Shelby Wedel of Anabel, MO, Alizabeth Huffstutter of Foristell, MO, Alexander Huffstutter of Foristell, MO, Noah Wedel of Anabel, MO, and Aria Huffstutter of Foristell, MO; and great-grandson, Cyan Harrison of St. Ann, MO. Anita is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gene Pruitt; and five sisters, Barbara Deckard, Theresa Skinner, Arline Anderson, Linda Albright, and Mary Ann Dick. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Larry Wedel officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time with family present. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
