Jim and Barbara,
What a one-of-a-kind lady your Mom was! We were all so very blessed to have had her in our lives. She seemed to always know who she was and where she wanted to be! We should all be so directed. Our love to you both and your family.

It's so good to hear from you, I miss seeing you in Alden, when I visit. I enjoyed our brief chat the last time you were in town. Yes, Sara had a focus, couldn't hold her back, she was go, go , go. After a bad brain bleed she couldn't believe that her parents were gone and was sad about that. Then one day as she lay dying, she awoke from a sleep and said, "my parents are alive, they're alive". This was a comfort to her and even in death she had planned ahead, she was going to be with her beloved parents. I was with her to the end, it made her leaving sad and joyous. Thanks for thinking of us. Barbara

I would like to tell you a story of what your mom did for us. My son had just finished his chemo and radiation for stage 3 brain cancer. He had biked to Kansas and needed to return to Westby WI to be treated for what we would find out was cancer. Right after treatment he decided to return to Kansas to continue his ride across America. I was waiting for him to come through Alden, so I opened the Sunbeam door to find a world of amazing fabric. I couldn't believe my eyes! I told your mom and the kind clerk that I was collecting fabric to make a quilt for my son. I told them the story and that he was going to Luther Seminary to be a pastor when his ride was finished. They were so helpful in finding all sorts of fabric for me to fussy cut to tell his life's story. By the time Joe came, I was the proud owner of fabric that is now in his quilt which is in Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville WI!
The kindness that I felt that day has lived in my heart.

That is a great story Anna and thank you for sharing that with us. Sara loved that shop and the people that came in, it seemed to give her a vitality all its own.

To Barb and Jim and family, Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your mom. These good-byes are never easy. Your mom was an amazing lady! Just reading her obituary left me with new admiration. I remember she always wore a big smile and gave out the best Halloween treats! As an adult, I appreciated hearing how she continued to support the Alden community in any way she could. Please accept my love and prayers for you in the days ahead from your old friend, Linda Thomas Hughes

Barbara & Jim,

Please accept my condolences for your loss. I am a distant relative from the Indiana Marie Fitch side. I can still remember when my parents visited your farm in the summer of 1958. We were traveling out west on one of our many western trips. That night we stayed overnite and watched Sputnik traverse the sky from your back patio. Your dad gave us a tour of the farm the next morning before we onour way. Our prayers are with you.

Hi Mark, I’ve just been working on the Fitches, and the Fairs, and how they settled Dekalb County in the 1830s, amazing men. And I think I remember your trip in 1958. We didn’t have many cousins, so any were cherished. Thanks Mark for thinking of Sara and us, she enjoyed her life. Barbara

Hello Barbara and Jim,
My sincere sympathies to you in your loss but what joy we can have in the life that was lived. Your mom was such a great lady! I always enjoyed the pictures and movies remembering way back to when she took them when I was in grade school.. As mentioned, she was a driven person, ready to move on to the next thing, but would stop and visit and break into that wonderful smile and little laugh. She was always interested in how others were doing and I appreciated her support of and interest in my girls. She will be missed.

Our sympathy to Sara’s family. Sara was my dad’s (Robert Gloyd) favorite cousin and my namesake. We visited Alden several years ago, and she gave us a tour of her town which she was so proud of. It gives us a good memory of Sara.
