Roy Crawford’s journey ended August 29, 2018. He had been traveling this world for 67 years.
Roy’s journey began May 24, 1951 in rural Jackson County, Alabama as the youngest of Jim and
Elmo Crawford’s eight children. As if being the youngest child wasn’t hard enough, Roy enlisted
in the U.S. Army in 1969 and was sent to fight in Vietnam. After receiving an Honorable
Discharge for his service, Roy returned home and began his career as a Union Ironworker for
Local 704 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He married Teri Liska and they adopted a son and
daughter in 1986. They spent the next 18 years raising the children they chose; one of Roy’s
proudest accomplishments.
In 2011, Roy moved to Lyons, KS from Bridgeport, Alabama to be closer to his children and
grandchildren. He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend Teri Liska, his son Tyler (Joy), his
daughter Jennifer (Cody), and six grandchildren: Connor, Cade, Peyton, Landyn, Ethan, and
Kamden - all of Lyons.
At Roy’s specific request, there will be no formal service, but friends and family are welcome to
gather at Tyler and Joy’s home on Sunday, September 2, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 for a
celebration of his life. Pepsi-Cola, Oreos, and classic rock music will be provided in his honor. Memorials can be made to Roy Crawford Memorial Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
If Roy could tell you himself, he’d say, “What a long, strange trip it’s been.”
