Ross Quintal Vasconcells

Ross Quintal Vasconcells, 90, of Lyons, passed away July 19, 2018.  He was born January 21, 1928 in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Charles Albert and Mabel Locke Embree Vasconcells.  He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1945. On October 13, 1948, Ross was united in marriage with Norma Jean Brubaker in Lyons, Kansas, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2017.  Ross served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and U. S. Marine Corps (in the Pacific theater - Japan and the Philippines) from 1945 to 1953. Ross has been a lifelong Lyons resident. He was a farmer, painter, postal employee, jeweler/clock repairman and was actively involved in Boy Scouts, Liars Fishing Club, Church boards, Camp WA-Ja-To board member and many other community services.  He was a member of Lyons First Christian Church, American Legion and Masonic Lodge.   He is also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert C. Vasconcells.  He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo and husband John Berkheimer of Lyons; two sons, Roger and wife Joyce Vasconcells of Sykesville, MD and Ben and wife Nanette Vasconcells of Linthicum Heights, MD; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, J. Fred Williamson of Lyons.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 29 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.  Funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, July 30 at Lyons First Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating.  Burial with military honors at Lyons Municipal Cemetery will follow.  Memorials may be made to the Bell and Star Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
