LYONS – Mildred (Millie) Colle, age 92, entered into rest on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society of Lyons. She was born on March 18, 1927, in Gridley, Kansas to James and Cassie Reed. She married Paul Colle on May 8, 1945. A loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was a graduate from Emporia State Teachers College and Sterling College.
Survivors include: two children, Paula McKinney and husband Greg of Park City, Kansas, and Bruce Colle and wife Tammy of Hutchinson, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson; nieces; nephews; and great nieces and nephews of Kansas and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David and James; and husband Paul.
Mildred’s passions included gardening, baking and children. People in the community always looked forward to her delicious pies and cinnamon rolls which she always prepared thorough out the week and delivered with a smile. She never bought 5lbs of flour only a 50lb bag would suffice. Her teaching career began in Rice County, southeast of Lyons in a one room school house. She taught and coached basketball and softball at Rockville School, then taught at Little River where she also coached basketball and softball. Mrs. Colle finished her teaching career in the Lyons School District. Her passion for students was so strong that she substituted in the Lyons Schools until the age of 80.
Funeral service will be at 2:30 P.M., Friday, January 3, 2020, at First Baptist Church, Lyons with Rev. Dr. J. Ted Blakely officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
