Mattie E. (Moore) Jones

Mattie E. Jones, 71, of Sterling, passed away September 25, 2019 at her residence. She was born December 2, 1947 at Sterling Hospital, Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Frank H. and Mabel Fenwick Moore, Sr. She was a lifelong Rice County resident. Mattie was an assembly supervisor for KMW in Sterling for 20 years; owned and operated DJ’s Bar and Grill in Nickerson; mowed yards; and worked for USD 376 as a custodian. She was a member of the Hutchinson VFW Post #1361, Ellinwood American Legion Post #320 and the Busch Pool League in Nickerson. On June 21, 1963, Mattie was united in marriage with Richard L. “Dick” Jones, Sr. in Sterling. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her daughter, Millie Casey and husband Kevin of Sterling; two sons, Dicko Jones and wife Sherry, and Shannon Jones and wife Christy, both of Sterling; three brothers, Robert Moore of Lyons, Pat Moore and wife Carol of Hutchinson, and Raymond Jones of Hutchinson; three sisters, Myrtle Ladd of Kansas City, KS, Minnie Myers of Alden, and Joyce Moore of Alden; six grandchildren, Brittany Ferguson and husband Brett, Brogan Jones, Trae Jones, Kayli Lohrmeyer and husband Luke, Trent Jones, and Trevan Jones; three great-grandchildren, Bragan and Briar Ferguson and Lucie Sillin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mattie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Frank Jr., Jim, Zeke and John Moore; sisters, Millie Nelson, Elsie Critchfield and Helen Widener. Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Shannon Jones’s House, 836 East Monroe, Sterling, KS. Memorials may be made to Hutchinson VFW Post #1361 in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
