Leota Belle "Chris" (Christie) Buchanan

Leota Belle “Chris” Buchanan, 91, of Little River, passed away June 1, 2018, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 2, 1926, in Stafford, Kansas, the daughter of Jube and Ruby Rose Christie. She graduated from Stafford High School with the class of 1944. In 1947, Chris graduated from St. Elizabeth Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Hutchinson, KS as part of the Cadet Nurse Corps. Chris has resided in Little River since 1947, formerly of Stafford. She was a homemaker and nurse. Chris was a member of Congregational Church, Little River. On September 7, 1947, Chris was united in marriage with Bruce L. Buchanan in Stafford, KS. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim Buchanan; brothers, Don, Ralph, Everett, Leo and Bill Christie. She is survived by her five sons, Doug and Mary Buchanan of Lyons, Scott and Kelley Buchanan of St. George, KS, Shannon and Jo Buchanan of Salina, KS, Dan and Teresa Buchanan of Wichita, KS, and Andrew and Anita Buchanan of Wichita, KS; daughter-in-law, Teresa and Dave Perky of Overland Park, KS; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1:30 P.M., Friday, June 8, 2018, at Congregational Church, Little River with Pastor Ted Weis officiating. Private family burial will be at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 8, 2018, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Congregational Church or Hospice Home Care of Reno County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
