Leona Pearl Waggoner, 61, of Lyons, passed away October 2, 2018 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born November 11, 1956 in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse Floyd and Esther Maxine Cochran Cook. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1975 and was a lifelong Lyons resident. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she found her calling providing care to others as a nurse. Beginning her career as a CNA, she continued her education and received her LPN license in 1992. She worked as an LPN in several area long-term care facilities, hospitals and clinics. Leona was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Lyons. On June 7, 1974, Leona was united in marriage with Edward Waggoner in Lyons, Kansas. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her children, Justin Waggoner and wife Stephanie (Sutton) of Garden City, KS, and their children, Madelyn and Cassidy, Becky Caywood and husband Todd of Maple Hill, KS, Christopher Waggoner and wife Katy (Kocher) of Lyons, and their child, Kaitlyn; brother- in- law, Donald Waggoner and wife Julia of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law, Linda Barker of Lyons. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Dennis Corbett officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 5, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Lyons Public Library in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
