Lauralee (Cessna) Steffey

Lauralee Steffey, 79, of Sterling, passed away November 21, 2017 at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born February 9, 1938 in Susank, Kansas, the daughter of George and Fern Gilpin Cessna. Lauralee attended Claflin High School. She has resided in Sterling since 2015, formerly of Palmer, TX. She was a veterinary assistant for Duncanville Animal Clinic in Duncanville, TX for 15 years, and an Avon representative. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Duncanville, TX. On September 15, 1956, Lauralee was united in marriage with John Vincent Welch in Ellinwood, KS. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2004. On November 2, 2003, Lauralee was united in marriage with Arnold Steffey. He preceded her in death in 2009. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, John Welch; great grandson, Dylon Newill; and brother, Steve Cessna. Lauralee is survived by her son, George and Angie Welch of Whitney, TX; daughter, Lori and Bob Wilson of Lyons, KS; sister, Judy Carson of Lyons, KS; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; partner, Leland McAlister of Larned, KS. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Father Brian Viel officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, KS at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 24, 2017 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Kansas Humane Society, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
