John W. "Jay" Dumond

John W. “Jay” Dumond, 71, of Lyons, passed away September 13, 2018 at Via Christie St. Francis, Wichita, KS. He was born April 5, 1947 in Caney, KS, the son of James Harrison and Maybelle Fox Dumond. He graduated from Caney High School with the class of 1965; and attended Coffeyville Community College and Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Jay has resided in Lyons since 1976, formerly of Ellsworth. He was retired from natural gas pipeline for Southern Star. Jay was a member and longtime deacon for the Assembly of God Church, Lyons, member of Gideons International, President of the Rice/Ellsworth Camp for Gideons International, and a Light for the Lost Councilman. On August 18, 1967, Jay was united in marriage with Twila Wolfe in Caney, KS. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his three sons, Rodney Dumond and wife Liz of Niantic, CT, Rev. Travis Dumond and wife Melissa of Andover, KS, and Rick Dumond of Lyons; daughter, Angela Bonnema and husband Rev. Jamie of Maple Hill, KS; sister, Donna Dumond of Broken Arrow, OK; six grandchildren, William, Colin, Samuel, Amelia and Lydia Dumond and Sterling Bonnema. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia “Patty” Dumond. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Assembly of God Church, Lyons with Rev. Travis Dumond and Pastor Larry Schumaker officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Gideons International or Lyons Assembly of God Church in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
