John William Godfrey

John William Godfrey, 82, of Lyons, passed away January 5, 2018 at Hospice House of Hutchinson after a short illness. He was born April 24, 1935, the son of William and Anna McGlynn Godfrey. John graduated from Thomas Moore Prep High School in Hays and later received his bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. He has resided in Lyons since 2013, formerly of Wichita. John was a purchasing agent for the State of Kansas. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Lyons, Oldsmobile Club of Topeka, and the Thunderbird Club of Wichita. John was united in marriage with Ellen Godfrey. She preceded him in death in 2004. John was later united in marriage with Barbara Beck. She preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita McAtee; and brother, Norman Godfrey. John is survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Godfrey of Pittsburg, KS; two nephews, Brent and Kerry Godfrey of Lyons, and Jim and Joyce McAtee of Bushton; four nieces, Melanie and Joe Sinnett of Pittsburg, KS, Janna and Russell Foss of Hutchinson, Cindy and Aaron Webb of Overland Park, KS, and Lisa Bolton of Wichita. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons with Father Patrick Kotrba officiating. A Parish Rosary will be said at 9:30 A.M., Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Lyons. Private family burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit, Kansas. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials can be made to Thomas Moore Prep or St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Lyons, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
