Jane Glenn Obituary

Jane Louise “Rodgers” Glenn, 98, died July 7, 2018 at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born January 8, 1920, at Abilene, Kansas, daughter of Earl and Mabel Rodgers. Graduated Hutchinson High School in 1938, and graduated Hutchinson Junior College. November 3, 1940, married Harry Gilmore Glenn, also from Hutchinson; they were married 59 years. During WWII, she joined her husband, who served in the Navy in New York, working at Brooklyn Naval Ship Yards and various jobs in and around NY. After the war, they moved to Ulysses, Kansas. In the 1950’s they moved to Sterling, where she worked for Flo Trout Clothing Store. Moving to Wichita in 1958, she worked 13 years, as head teller and auditor at Central State Bank. By 1978, she and her husband opened Glenn’s of Sterling Clothing Store, retiring in 1987. Her hobbies: reading, bridge and televised sports. She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth; sister, JoAnn Held; parents, Earl and Mabel Rodgers; husband, Harry; and brother, Jack Rodgers. Survivors include a son, Steve Glenn and wife Sheryl of Hutchinson; grandson, Jesse Glenn and wife Heather of Park City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will take place with a private graveside service in Leoti Cemetery, Leoti, Kansas. Memorials can be made to the Sterling Public Library in care of Birzer Funeral Home, P.O.
