James Alan Wood Jr.

James Alan Wood Jr., 69, of Geneseo, passed away July 1, 2018 at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born January 21, 1949 in Sterling, KS, the son of James Alan Sr. and Ruby Kruse Wood. He graduated from Geneseo High School with the class of 1967. Alan has been a lifelong Rice County resident, having lived the majority of his life in Geneseo. He was owner-operator of Alan Wood Trucking, Inc. in Geneseo. Alan was a volunteer for Geneseo #5 Fire Department. Alan played slow pitch softball for many years and umpired numerous baseball games. He enjoyed taking the grandchildren deer and pheasant hunting. On January 22, 1996, Alan was united in marriage with Mary George in Geneseo. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, Don Wood of Westmoreland, KS; bonus children, Chris Muse of Geneseo, Dean Muse of Norman, OK, Jennifer Muse and Erin Ellis of Bloomington, IN, and Kandee Muse and husband Troy Haug of Utica, KS; sisters, Virginia and husband Ron Monroe of Orient, OH, Shirley Horton of Tulsa, OK, and Dorothy Crum of Wichita, KS; eleven grandchildren, Lauren, Ava and James Wood, Bailey and husband Eric Matthews, Trey, T, Austin, Andrew, Alex, Kymbre and Kami Muse; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Stephanie Wood. Graveside services will be 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 13, 2018 at Geneseo Cemetery, Geneseo, KS. Memorials may be made to Geneseo #5 Fire Department or Geneseo Cemetery in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
