Doris Caywood Obituary

RAYMOND – Doris M. Caywood, 91, of Raymond, went to be with her Lord on November 27, 2017.  She was born March 8, 1926 to Frank and Eunice Proffitt Stout, on their ranch south of Raymond and was the ninth of 13 children.

On September 29, 1946, she married John W. Caywood.  They had attended the Alden schools for all 12 grades and had also attended the Alden Baptist Church together.  They lived their entire married life on the Caywood family homestead between Alden and Raymond.

Doris was active in the Alden Baptist Church for most of her life.  During grade school years, she would make drawings to help convey the message played by the church pianist, Emma Page.  In high school and beyond, the Stout sisters – Doris, Roberta, and Rosalie – would often sing special music at church.  As an adult, Doris held many different church jobs, including teaching Sunday school, Bible school, sending cards to the homebound and sick, and singing in the women’s triple trio.  She was also active in the planning and building of the church’s new parsonage in the 1950s.

When both of her children were in school, she began work at the Raymond State Bank.  She and her husband attended banking school together, and eventually they became part of the bank’s board of directors.  Doris later became the bank’s president and held this position until her retirement in 1993.  She loved banking and was greatly appreciated by many bank customers.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Caywood and husband Phil Robertson, Jr. of West Chester, PA, and her son, Douglas Caywood and wife Vicki, of rural Raymond.   Also surviving her are her siblings, Gene Stout of Wichita Falls, TX, Grace Kittle of Langdon, KS, 27 nieces and nephews, and Carolyn Phillips, longtime special caregiver.  She was preceded in death by ten siblings (brothers Si, Bill, Jiggs, Don, Pete, Dick and sisters Sally Cole, Ora Belle Smith, Roberta Drake, and Rosalie Nunemaker) and 6 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be at 2:30p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Alden Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Hendricks and Pastor Kendal Connor officiating.  Visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2017, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with the family receiving friends from 5-7:00 p.m.,  Burial will be at the Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond.
