Dean Davison Obituary

Dean Davison of Lyons died of natural causes at his home, Friday, September 14th, 2018. Born on December 11, 1933 in Douglass, KS to Estes and Glada Davison. The family later moved to the Braman, Oklahoma area and he attended and graduated from Braman High School. He attended trade school in Wichita and was employed at Boeing. March 5, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Taylor, in Braman. They moved the following day to Lyons, KS, where together, along with Dean’s parents, they established the local franchise OTASCO store. Ownership of three additional OTASCO stores in surrounding communities followed over the years, until they sold the business after 28 years. Dean continued as entrepreneur in other Lyons businesses through the years until retirement. Dean was active in Lyons civic organizations to include Lyons Chamber of Commerce, Lyons Kiwanis Club, Lyons Optimist Club, serving two terms as Charter President, and the Lyons Rotary Club., and was president, and/or chairman and member of Lyons City Council and City Planning Commission. He was a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church. Dean’s love of adventure began as a schoolboy. He was a Boy Scout and it wasn’t uncommon to find him camping, fishing and hunting alone in his youth in the Oklahoma wilderness. His love of the outdoors was his passion. He organized and planned yearly camping, fishing and hunting trips with his friends and family that continued for decades.Dean is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Joan in 2016, son Mike in 1998, and sister, Pat Tinin. Survivors include son, Kerry and Mary Davison of Lyons, a daughter, Diane and Shannon Heinly of Wichita, daughter-in-law Karen Davison of Heber Springs, AR. Grandchildren Nick and Melanie Davison of Leawood, Megan and James Hill of Derby, Matthew Heinly of Wichita, Tyler Davison and fiancée Kolby Balthazor of Overland Park, Kevin Heinly and fiancée Kirsti Smith of Wichita, Kortney Davison and Kelsi Davison both of Heber Springs, AR. Great-grandchildren Foster Davison and Teddy Davison of Leawood. Brother Dale and Donna Davison of Wichita, Sister-in-law Sharon and Leroy Ray, and brother-in-law Jerry and Sally Johnston all of Braman, OK. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery at 2:00 pm Friday, September 21, 2018. Memorials in lieu of flowers to the Michael Davison Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Rice County District Hospital.
