David Allen Reynolds, 69, of Sterling, passed away September 6, 2019 at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born on November 18, 1949, the son of Brownlee David and Eula Willetta Ludwick Reynolds. David graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1967, and later received an electrical engineering degree while serving in the United States Navy. He served in the United States Navy from 1969 until his retirement in 1994. During his active service Dave rose to rank of Chief Petty Officer and served on numerous tours in the Atlantic and Mediterranean aboard a Nuclear Attack Submarine as a reactor operator. David taught the Royal Saudi Navy electronics while working for General Dynamics Electric Boat. Following his military career, he worked as a guard for the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. David was a member of the Lions Club; VFW Post #1361 of Hutchinson; American Legion Post #128 Sterling; and volunteered at a homeless shelter in Rhode Island. David and Marilyn supported many of their nieces and nephews’ education in the Philippines. He enjoyed gardening, raising rabbits, llamas, ponies, and sheep. On July 30, 1988, David was united in marriage with Marilyn Soldevilla in Rhode Island. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his three brothers, Chuck Reynolds and wife Deb of Biloxi, MS, Curt Reynolds and wife Patty of Great Bend, KS, and Randy Reynolds and wife Teri of Olathe, KS; two sisters, Belinda Anschutz and husband John of Sterling, KS and Lesa Reynolds and wife Teresa of Stuart, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deb Oden; and two nieces, Carissa Freeman and Rochelle Huffman. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with Pastor Michael Gray officiating. Burial will be at Alden Valley Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
