Clarence “C.O.” Sherwood, 88, of Wichita, formerly of Lyons, Kansas, passed away February 21, 2019 at his home in Wichita. He was born September 23, 1930 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Clarence Berger and Carmelita Sweet Sherwood. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1948, and attended the University of Kansas. C.O. has resided in Lyons since 1946. He retired in 1995 as owner of Lyons Lumber Company. C.O. was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lyons; past president of the Junior Jaycees; past member and president of Lyons Rotary Club; board member and past president of Lyons Town and Country Club; former Masonic Lodge #32; Lumberman’s Association; and past Lyons Chamber of Commerce member. He was an avid golfer and KU supporter and fan. On March 26, 1955, C.O. was united in marriage with Billie Martin in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, Craig Sherwood of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Stacy Stafford and husband Mark of Wichita, KS, and Cherie Hornsby and husband Rick of Magnolia, TX; seven grandchildren, Shelby Konen, Garrett Konen and wife Tessa, Kelsey Konen, Chelsea Sifers and husband Grant, Alexa Hornsby, Brett Sherwood, and Hailey Sherwood; five great-grandchildren, Banks, Hollis, Swin, Aizley, and Milly. Funeral service will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Gladys Ritterhouse officiating; and Military honors will be performed by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Bell and Star Fund or Lyons Public Library in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
