Virginia Elizabeth “Ginger” Speaks, 75, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away March 26, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born April 23, 1948, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence and Geneva (Lynch) Speaks. Ginger was a longtime Sterling resident. She graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1966 and received her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Degree in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Ginger was an LPN for fifteen years at Pleasant View Home in Inman, Kansas. She loved fishing, putting together puzzles, drinking coffee and diet Pepsi with her friends, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Ginger enjoyed collecting Wizard of Oz and Flamingo memorabilia. Ginger is survived by her two sons, Jackson Ivester of Sterling, KS and Jason Walton of Johnson, KS; daughter, Angela Hayden and husband Jay of Hooper, UT; brother, Larry Speaks and wife Ann McKenna of Cheney, KS; six grandchildren, Cody Schrock, Becka Schrock, Jake Walton, Alec Walton, Gracie Walton, and Bayley Ivester; and great-grandson, Milo Schrock. Ginger is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 1, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. A visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home with family present. Burial will follow at the Peace Valley Cemetery, rural Sterling. Memorials may be given to Rice County Council on Aging or Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
