Shirley L (Temple) Kelley

Shirley L. Kelley, 84, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away March 5, 2024, at Hutchinson Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 13, 1939, in Hoisington, KS, the daughter of Harold and Lou Ella Temple. Shirley resided in Lyons for over fifty years, where she met many lifelong friends. She graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, Kansas. Shirley worked at the Lyons Daily News for twenty years. She was a miniature collector and built an epic dollhouse filled with customized miniatures, including miniature versions of her family. Shirley’s other hobbies included sarcasm and laughter with friends and family, and especially being a great mom and grandma. On February 6, 1960, Shirley was united in marriage with Benny Raymond “Ben” Kelley in Sterling, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kathleen Knupp and Sue Guthrie; and beloved granddaughter, Audra Kelley. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Todd Kelley and wife Tina of Lyons, KS, and Trent Kelley of Gardner, KS; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Rob Bolton officiating. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
