Mason Ross Caywood Jr., 85, of Kingman, Kansas, passed away February 22, 2024, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born September 13, 1938, in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Mason Ross Sr. and Margaret Glendine (Henry) Caywood. Mason has resided in Kingman since 2002, formerly of Dallas, Texas, and other various towns in Kansas. He attended Ashland Grade School in rural Sterling, and graduated from Sterling High School, Sterling, Kansas with the class of 1956, where he played football, tennis, and threw the shotput in track. Mason continued his education for one year at Ottawa University and later graduated from Emporia State Teachers College with a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1960. Mason served in the Kansas and Nebraska Army National Guard until his honorable discharge on November 1, 1963. He worked as a bank loan officer in various capacities in Omaha, Nebraska and Southern California, and worked for the FDIC from 1987, until retiring in 2002. Mason was a member of the Kingman United Methodist Church; former member of the Sterling Baptist Church; member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, Kiwanis, Lions Club, and the Sons of the American Revolution. He loved playing golf with his sons and their families. The most important thing in Mason’s life was his home with Lynn and spending time with his family. On June 5, 1960, Mason was united in marriage with Lynn Shoemake in Kingman. Mason is survived by his wife, Lynn Caywood of Kingman, KS; two sons, Doug Caywood and wife Donna of Stillwater, MN, and Chris Caywood and wife Debbie of Clermont, FL; sister, Carol Denniston and husband Don of Santa Clara, CA; seven grandchildren, Mason, Mitchell, Austin, Bradon, Emily, Jacob, and Lauren Caywood; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Mason is preceded in death by his parents. Graveside service will be at 1:30 P.M., Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Alden Valley Cemetery, Alden, Kansas. Memorials may be given to Sterling College in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
