Marian Kay (Finch) Ankerholz

Marian Kay (Finch) Ankerholz, passed away in Larned, Kansas, on April 3, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born August 3, 1935, in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence R. and Isabella M. (German) Finch. Marian lived most of her life in Lyons, where she attended Park Elementary School, Lyons Junior High, and graduated from Lyons High School in 1953. In 1955, Marian married Richard L. Ankerholz, and they moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was employed by the FBI. In 1956, the couple returned to Lyons, where Richard practiced law and Marian was a homemaker. Marian was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Lyons, where she was active in the church choir. She served on various church committees and was a member of other community groups, including the Pallas group, CWF, and Worthwhile Club. She loved to sing and also enjoyed playing piano, keeping a lovely home, traveling, and visiting her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, L.E.; and two sisters, Geneva Ankerholz and Sandra Clarke. Marian is survived by her immediate family: her son, Rian (Nancy) Ankerholz, granddaughters, Mara (Chris) Winiarz and Kellen (Drew) Downing; her daughter, Teal (Steve) Yoxall, grandchildren, Sommer, Regan (Courtney), and Morgan (Andre) Scoccia; her daughter, Amber Ankerholz (Rick Brownrigg), grandson, Will Brownrigg, five great-grandchildren, Enzo and Dominic Winiarz, Douglas and Donovan Downing, and Leighton Yoxall, and many nieces and nephews. At the end of her life, Marian suffered from Alzheimer’s, which prevented her from fully interacting with her family and friends, but she remained a source of love and comfort to all and will be deeply missed. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lyons Bell and Star Fund or Gentiva Hospice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
