Lanny Cobb Obituary

Lanny Patrick Cobb, 73, of Little River, Kansas, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 22, 1950, in Hoffman Memorial Hospital, Little River, the son of John B. and Evelyn (Gucker) Cobb. Lanny was a lifelong Little River resident. He graduated from Little River High School, with the class of 1968, and graduated from Hutchinson Community College in 1970. Lanny enlisted in the United States Army on October 14, 1970 and was stationed at Camp David, Maryland, Key Biscayne, Florida, and Ft. Hood, Texas. February 21-28 of 1972, Lanny accompanied President Richard Nixon on a trip to China. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on October 13, 1976. Lanny worked at CertainTeed Molded Products for thirty-two years, Siemens Wind Energy for seven years, and as a housekeeper at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home. He loved auctions, especially the church auction, and worked with Bill Oswalt for over 30 years. He also worked with Jim Hollinger, Garry Hostetler, and Kevin Ediger. Lanny spent over forty-three years serving his country and community with the United States Army, Little River Fire Department for thirty-eight years, and SSH. On March 4, 2000, Lanny was united in marriage with Sandra Elstun. Lanny is survived by his wife, Sandy of Little River, KS; son, Benjamin Cobb and wife, Michelle of Hutchinson, KS; two stepchildren, Ursila Bowdon of Redding, CA, and Andrew Hanscom of Houston, TX; brother, John Cobb and wife Candice of Lawrence, KS; two nieces, Deanna Brown and Kelly Cobb; many grandchildren; and two beloved four legged children, Bear and Dozzer. Lanny is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Patrick James Cobb. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Congregational Church, Little River, with Pastor Ted Weis officiating. The family suggest casual attire, K-State purple and blue jeans. Burial will follow at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard and the American Legion Riders. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
