Joseph Horton Obituary

Joseph Loren Horton, 73, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away March 21, 2024, at Meridian Rehabilitation and Health Center, Wichita. He was born June 28, 1950, in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of James Luther and Willie (Jackson) Horton. Joseph was a near lifelong Rice County resident. He was a self-employed independent contractor. Joseph served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed building wood projects, fishing, being outdoors, playing his guitar, listening to Golden Oldies, and loved telling stories. On September 3, 1993, Joseph was united in marriage with Nora Mergist in Alden, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Nora Horton of Lyons, KS; three children, Jennifer Horton, Brandon Navarro, and Valarie White and husband Blake all of Lyons, KS; brother, Gene Horton and wife Candy Ann; two sisters, Glena Sue Bruno, and Veta Bruno and husband Leon; four grandchildren; niece, Polly Horton of TX; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, twin Robert “Fuzz” Horton and infant brother, James Thomas Horton; two sisters, Brenda Swenson and Ruby Mae Horton; and brother-in-law, Gene Swenson. The family suggests memorials be given to Birzer Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.
