Dewey Dean Breese, 90, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away April 10, 2024, at Reflection Living, Hutchinson. He was born May 26, 1933, in Norton, Kansas, the son of Dewey H. and Mary Rosetta (Fisk) Breese. Dewey graduated from Logan High School, Logan, Kansas. He resided in Hutchinson for the past eight years, formerly of Lyons and Wichita, Kansas. Dewey served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist at Lyons Manufacturing and later as the City of Lyons Administrator for twenty-seven years. Dewey was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson, and Lyons Rotary Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. On February 28, 1964, Dewey was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Norris in Jetmore, Kansas. Dewey is survived by his wife, Mary of Hutchinson; five children, Mark Breese and wife Pam of Lindsborg, KS, Staci Holcom and husband Jack of Shawnee, KS, Toni Proffitt and husband Daniel of Hutchinson, KS, Phoebe Suter of Houston, TX, and Cheryl Herold and husband Joe of AZ; sister, Faye McGuire of Hays, KS; two foster daughters, Stephanie Gregory and Danasia DeWinter; fifteen grandchildren, Amanda Manwarren, Sarah Foran, Tyler Holcom, Tess Holcom, Cody Holcom, Cole Holcom, Jacque Folwarczny, Joanna Alford, Jessica Forwarczny, Jenna Proffitt, and Macie Proffitt; four foster grandchildren, Kylee, Bradyn, Grasyn, and Ella; and one great-grandson, Calvin Manwarren. Dewey is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dewey Lee Breese; brother, Joe Breese; and two sisters, Delene Woodring, and Phyllis Lorence. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army – Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. A rosary will be said at 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bell and Star Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
