Richard "Dick" Wyatt Obituary

Richard C. (Dick) Wyatt, Wichita, Kansas, died June 16, 2016, in Wichita. Dick was born March 4, 1924 in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Robert E. Wyatt and Nina M. Cuthbertson Wyatt. He had 2 brothers, Robert E. Wyatt and William M. Wyatt. He was a graduate of Sterling High School and attended Sterling College and the University of Kansas.He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII with the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. He was recalled to the Navy Reserve Unit to serve in the Korean War. On April 5, 1947 he married Anna Lou (Annie) McAllaster. They had 2 sons, Ray E. Wyatt, Abilene, KS., and Rex A. Wyatt, now deceased.

Dick was President of Peoples Savings and Loan Association, Sterling, Kansas, until 1983. At that time, Peoples Savings merged with First Federal Savings and Loan Association, now Landmark National Bank, and Dick and Annie moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where Dick served as Senior Vice President and on the Board of Directors until his retirement.

Dick was involved in many activities. He was President of Midwest Savings Conference in 1962-63; served on Board of Directors of Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka which supervised the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska from 1968 to 1972. He was president of the Kansas Savings and Loan League during the year 1975-1976. He served on the Board of the United Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, a Director of the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, a Director of the Rice County Development Corporation, & clerk of the public school district in Sterling for 18 years.

Dick had been active in the Presbyterian Church in Sterling. He was treasurer of 15 years and also served as a ruling elder on the Session. He was chairman of the building committee for the new church in Sterling, dedicated in 1971. After moving to Dodge City in 1983 he served the Presbyterian Church there as an elder, church treasurer and Trustee.

Active in Rotary since joining in January, 1948, he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and served as President of the Sterling and Dodge City, Kansas, Clubs, as well as a District Governor of Rotary District 5690. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Rotary International Golfing Fellowship and one of the organizers of the United States Golfing Fellowship of Rotary. He enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling with Annie.

He is survived by Annie, of the home, Ray, and wife Joan, of Abilene, Grandsons Tate, Tanner, Jeffery and Joshua, 5 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2016, at 1:30P.M., in Sterling, Kansas, at the United Presbyterian Church, 309 N. Broadway Ave. Memorials may be made to the Sterling College Athletic Department Scholarship Fund and sent in care of the Birzer Funeral Home, 203 N. 7th Street, Sterling, KS, 6757
