Milton E. Achatz, 92, died October 23, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. He was born September 11, 1924 in Ellinwood, Kansas, the son of Henry John and Rose Koch Achatz and was a lifetime Ellinwood resident. He was a retired farmer and a township maintenance operator for Lakin Township. On November 18, 1947, Milton was united in marriage with Bertha L. Birzer at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Ellinwood. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council 1187, both of Ellinwood. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Achatz, of the home; 4 sons, John & Bonnie Achatz, Lyons, Charlie & Barbara Achatz, Great Bend, Paul Achatz, Great Bend and Gerald & Glenna Achatz, Great Bend; brother, Bill Achatz, Ellinwood; and sister, Delores Hauser, Ellinwood; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lester Achatz; 4 brothers, Elmer, Richard, Tom, and Robert Achatz; 2 sisters, Ada Woydziak and Dorothy Achatz. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October, 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Peter and Paul Historical Fund or Woodhaven Care Center in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
