Louise Pickering Obituary

Louise (Kusch) Pickering died November 23, 2016. Louise was a member of the Little River community since 1944 when she, her husband and two sons moved here from Glendale, California to farm on property located seven miles southeast from Little River.  Her husband had previously worked at the Lockheed Aircraft Co. during the war years.  In addition to being a successful farm wife, Louise was also an accomplished artist.  She taught art at Rockville Grade School, at Sherman Grade School in Hutchinson, and Little River and Windom schools before she retired from teaching in 1981.  She continued to do art and showed her work on several occasions at one person shows in Hutchinson, as a member of the Hutchinson Art Association.  Her las show was in 1995 at the Hutchison Public Library.  It was shortly after this time that her art work was interrupted due to loss of vision

Mrs. Pickering was a member of the Little River Congregational Church and she practiced a strong faith in Jesus Christ to whom she was lead in an adult Bible study group.

Louise Kusch was born on October 26, 1916 in Henderson, Nebraska to Edward and Anna Sperling  Kusch , German immigrant parents who were living in Southern Russia.  In addition to other positive adult influences on her life, she likes to remember the Mason family for whom she was a live in caretaker and Mr & Mrs Denning who were foster parents while she attended and completed high school in Turon, Kansas in 1937 and graduated Ft. Hays State University.  She also remembers the Adams family to whom Mrs. Denning was earlier united by marriage.  Louise met and married William S. Pickering from the Langdon community on November 21, 1938, he died on August 21, 1986.

Mrs. Pickering’s family will miss her frequent prayers for each of them. They will also miss her

robust laugh and her enjoyable conversation.  She leaves 2 Sons, David & Shirley Pickering, Wichita, William “Bill” & Judy Pickering, Lawrence, many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
