Elvia Vigil, 72, of Sterling, passed away December 2, 2017 at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born December 6, 1944 in Harlingen, Texas, the daughter of Damos and Juanita Montalvo Garza. Elvia graduated from Harlingen High School. She has resided in Rice County since 2002, formerly of Santa Ana, California. Elvia was an assembled scuba diver trainer. She was a member of the Queen of Peace, Harlingen, Texas. Elvia was united in marriage with Jose Vigil Sr. in Texas. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2001. She is also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Damon G. Vigil of Lawrence, KS.; step-sons, Joseph and Paul Vigil of Santa Ana, CA.; niece, Ruth Mosqueda of Houston, TX.; brothers, Raul Garza and Abel Garza of Sterling, IL.; sisters, Alicia and Maria Villareal of Harlingen, TX., Mary Barnes of Dallas, TX.; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2017 at Harbor Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Santa Ana, California. Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
