Dona Joan Proffitt Obituary

Dona Joan Proffitt, 82, of Sterling, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Mennonite Friendship Community in South Hutchinson. She was born September 19, 1934, in Rolla, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Ethel Petersen Koblitz. Dona graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1953. She was a near lifelong resident of Sterling. Dona was co-owner of J & B Dairyland in Sterling. She was also a farmer and homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sterling; Sterling Bowling League; and she served on the Sterling Recreation Commision for several years. On June 20, 1953, Dona was united in marriage with Billy J. Proffitt, Sr. in Sterling. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her son, David Proffitt; daughter, Dawna K. Proffitt; brothers, David and Allie Koblitz; sisters, Phoebe Loomis, Bobbi Rodarmel, Josephine Mahoney, Hazel Hughes, Lou Forney, Sadie Alder, and Jean "Blackie" Manwarren. Dona is survived by her son, Billy Proffitt, Jr. and wife Terri of Hutchinson; two daughters, Amy Sloan and her significant other David McKinney of Asbury, Missouri, Dian Hodges of Quinter, Kansas; two sisters, Phyllis Bradford of Sterling, and Leva Loyd of Nevada, Missouri; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Sterling with Dr. Terry Hosch and Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, August 28, 2017 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present. Burial will be at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Kindred Hospice or United Methodist Church, Sterling in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
